After the successful launch of its inaugural esports fighting game league with live broadcasts of Street Fighter V, Happenstance FGC is excited to announce the launch of its second esports league with The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match. The first broadcast can be seen on July 30, 2020 starting at 8 pm Central Daylight Time at either of two locations: the Happenstance FGC Facebook page or on Twitch at @Chano20XX.
What is Happenstance FGC? It is a fighting game community that hosted its inaugural esports league with broadcasts of Street Fighter V. The Street Fighter V league play began on June 8, 2020 with its first broadcast and finished with a Top 8 tournament to crown its Season 1 champion on July 19, 2020. All of the past Street Fighter V broadcasts can be seen as archived broadcasts on the Happenstance FGC Facebook page.
Happenstance FGC will continue to broadcast future esports leagues as it expands to different game franchises. The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match
The league will be broadcast three nights a week: Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm central time. The league format is round-robin play where all 15 players will play each other in matches with the winner determined by the first player to win 5 games. At the end of league play, the top eight players will play a Top 8 tournament to determine the Season 1 champion.
The King of Fighters 2002 is the ninth game in the King of Fighters series. The Unlimited Match version was originally released on February 26, 2009 for PlayStation 2 and on February 27, 2015 for Steam on PC. The Unlimited Match version has 66 characters in total, making it the series’ largest roster. The latest version of the series, The King of Fighters XIV, was released on PlayStation 4 in August 2016. The next version, The King of Fighters XV, is expected to be released sometime in 2020.
