Happenstance Coffee is excited to announce the launch of Happenstance FGC. What is Happenstance FGC? It is a fighting game community that is hosting its inaugural online Street Fighter V league starting June 8, 2020.
You can watch the inaugural event starting at 8 pm Central time on June 8th. The league will be held three days a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays with an 8 pm start time.

The inaugural event boasts some top level talent. According to league director Luciano Chapa (himself an entrant and an Ultra Diamond level competitor), most of the initial players are ranked at the Diamond level and up to the Master level. Per the Street Fighter V ranking system, Diamond level and up accounts for only 2.12% of the very highest ranked players. See the graphic below for a breakdown of the levels.
The format of the league is round robin with double elimination. In the round robin portion of the league, all players will play each other one time. The double elimination portion of the league will start once the final eight players are determined based on the results of round robin play. The winner of a match is determined by the first player to 3 wins, with a maximum of 5 fights per match. The same rules for major Capcom events are in place. Only the loser of a match can change characters.
The events are expected to last approximately one hour, although the timing may vary. Every player that is entered in the league is expected to play during each broadcast.
The first tournament features 21 players from Mexico. Keep an eye out for future posts soon that will profile some of the featured players in the inaugural tournament.
Happenstance FGC will be expanding with more tournaments and league play to accommodate different levels of players and to develop some of the best talent in the fight game community.
