The fourth Happenstance FGC league has kicked off! There are three live streams per week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 pm Central Time. Be sure to tune into Happenstance FGC’s Facebook page where all the action goes down here https://www.facebook.com/Chano20XX.

The league format is round robin play where all players play one another. Matches are contested first to 5. At the end of round robin play, the Top 8 tournament will be broadcast to determine the champion.

The King of Fighters series is famous for employing a novel approach to fighting games by using the Team Battle System of 3-on-3 team based matches instead of the usual Player 1 v Player 2 format with the usual three rounds. In King of Fighters each player chooses a team of three different characters, instead of a single character. The player chooses which order the three chosen characters fight. When one character is defeated, the next member of that team enters the match and the winning character is rewarded by receiving a small portion of their health meter restored (assuming it was not a perfect round for the winning character). The dynamics of gameplay result in interesting matchups and the possibility of exciting comeback rally victories!

Match Results for the January 26 Stream

TST|Master Kim (5) defeats TST|Rolandub (0)

In the first two matches, Master Kim used Kim to get big leads before using Blue Mary to close out the matches. Master Kim displayed dominant form in Match 3 as he was able to defeat all of Rolandub’s team of three with Kim, his first fighter. In Match 4, Rolandub made a nice tactical switch to Kasumi (swapping out Benimaru) and it was the correct call as he was able to take a 1 character lead. With Joe as his second character, Rolandub was in good position as Master Kim was down to his last character in Kim. Master Kim, however, was able to complete the incredible comeback as he used Kim to defeat both Joe and King at full health. The fifth match was very close as both players were down to their last character. Using Kasumi first, Rolandub almost got the edge, but Master Kim used Kyo to take out Kasumi. Using King, Rolandub was quickly able to erase Kyo, but it was Mary up next for Master Kim. With Mary, he was able to take out King ang get Joe down to less than half of his health before the start of Round 5. Late in the match, it appeared that a comeback was possible for Rolandub but Seth made the entrance to save Kim with a punch that stopped both characters.

TST|lorigordo (5) defeats TST|Charly (0)

TST|lorigordo dominated the matches by taking leads of one character and a half and making trades that worked favorably against TST|Charly that were neutralized by the pressure of Jhun and Kyo.
