Michel Pereira, known for his wild fights full of tons of movement, kicks and jumping, spinning attacks (along with at times questionable tactics) appears to have toned down the antics somewhat and was rewarded with a solid decision victory over UFC newcomer Andre Fialho.
In Round 1, Fialho put his game plan to work straight away as he moved forward and pressured Pereira. Pereira was able to land a solid hook that forced Fialho to tap the brakes. Fialho was able to win Round 1 by controlling the octagon and cutting off Pereira as the Brazilian spent a good portion of the round on his bike. Fialho scored with a nice jab on several occasions and also landed a solid combination near the fence. Late in the round, Pereira began to increase his volume. Pereira then went for a takedown, but slipped in the process and ended up in bottom position as Fialho landed some decent shots.
Early in Round 2, Pereira was able to stop the charging Fialho with a some powerful hooks followed by some strong right hands. Pereira then missed on a flying with Fialho engaging the clinch off the missed strike. After quickly breaking the clinch, Pereria landed a hard front kick. Fialho had a nice moment when he landed a counter hook, but Pereira then landed another hard body shot. After the fighters clinch, Pereira scored with a hard knee to the body. Pereira attempted a superman punch off the fence that missed, but he nicely followed with another knee to the body. Just before the close of the round Pereira was able to land a takedown but had little time to get off any damage. In between rounds, Fialho is shown to have a deep cut along his left eyebrow. As Round 3 starts, Pereira attacked with some effective leg kicks. Fialho had some success midway through the round, but Pereira showed a strong will and was able to land effective counters. Pereira was the more active fighter in the round, throwing 13 more strikes than Fialho and outlanding him 43-17 according to UFC stats. All three judges scored the fight for Pereira 29-28.
