Happenstance FGC Street Fighter V TOP-8 Tournament to Determine Season 1 Champion, July 19 at 8 pm Central Time

Happenstance FGC will crown its inaugural champion for Season 1 of its Street Fighter V league on July 19 at 8 pm Central time. The highly coveted Season 1 championship belt will be on the line as the Top 8 players from league play will battle it out in a double elimination tournament to determine the champion. You can watch all of the exciting action on the Happenstance FGC Facebook page here.

Season 1 featured seven total broadcasts that featured high level play from some of the top Street Fighter competitors in Mexico. All of the past broadcasts are archived and can be seen on Happenstance FGC’s Facebook page at the link above.

The Top 8 players participating in the tournament are LauraAsesina, eightgrade, Aza_Belmont, jordanchoco, Kusanagi, SH-Rasec, Rob_Mty, and Kaiser. The win-loss records and the standings for the Top 8 players can be seen in the following graphic.

The league featured high level and highly ranked players in the Street Fighter V ranking system. All of the players to advance to the Top 8 are ranked Super Diamond or above. Super Diamond ranked players and above are all ranked in the top 1% of all ranked players. The following chart displays the rankings levels as of February 11, 2020.

Here is some biographical, rankings and league standing information for the Top 8. The players identified below are presented in order pursuant to the Street Fighter V ranking system. Their individual league records and standings are noted in their respective descriptions.

Antonio Medrano – a.k.a Kusanagi – Rank 313 (Ultimate Grand Master)

The highest ranked player in the Top 8 is Antonio Medrano, playing under the name Kusanagi. Antonio is ranked #313 in the world. As an Ultimate Grand Master ranked player, Antonio is in the top 0.04% of all players!

Antonio finished league play with an impressive record of 12-2-3. He finished 5th in the standings of the Top 8.

Antonio is a very experienced player who has participated in many tournaments. Last year, Antonio had an impressive second place finish in Thunderstruck 2019. Thunderstruck (held annually in Monterrey, Mexico) is an important Capcom Pro Tour event as it is a “Ranking Event” and draws top level pros. Kusanagi made it all the way to the Grand Final where he lost to another highly ranked pro in 801 Strider. Strider qualified for the year-end Capcom Cup championship tournament in 2019, so Kusanagi can be rightly proud of his second place finish in a premier event like Thunderstruck.

Kusanagi also was the winner of Revo 2019 where he defeated Jordanchoco (another Top 8 finisher in the league) in the final.

Jordanchoco – Rank 332 (Ultimate Grand Master)

The second highest ranked player in the Top 8, jordanchoco, is ranked #332 in the world. As with Kusanagi, as an Ultimate Grand Master ranked player, jordanchoco is in the top 0.04% of all players!

Jordanchoco finished league play with a 12-5-0 record and ranked as the 4th player in the Top 8.

One notable past result for Jordanchoco was a seventh place finish at Thunderstruck 2019. That was an impressive result given that the event is a Ranking Event and featured many top players among the 133 entrants.

Ossiel Rodrigez, aka LauraAsesina, is a veteran player with experience across multiple fighting games including: King of Fighters 98, King of Fighters 2002, Smash Bros Ultimate, Tekken 7, Soulcalibur 6, as well as Street Fighter 2, 4 and 5.

Ossiel likes to use a rushdown style of play in Street Fighter V by employing heavy pressure, particularly using grappling based characters. When the character Laura was released Ossiel naturally gravitated to her and she is the primary character he uses.

Ossiel earned an impressive 14-3-0 record during league play and finished first in the standings with 32 points.

eightgrade – Rank 3272 (Master)

Eightgrade is the fourth highest ranked player in the league per the Street Fighter V rankings system, but he finished second in the Top 8 with an impressive 15-2-0 record. He had an incredible eleven match win streak during league play.

Eightgrade had an impressive 4th place finish at Thunderstruck 2018 playing Akuma. Follow eightgrade on twitter at @geightgrade.

SH-Rasec – Rank 3276 (Master)

SH-Rasec – Rank 3276 (Master)

Rasec is a veteran of the Street Fighter franchise as he has been playing since Street Fighter 2. He has had some impressive tournament results, including a 25th place finish at Thunderstruck 2019. His favorite characters in Street Fighter V are M. Bison and Zangief.

Aza_Belmont – Rank 4384 (Ultra Diamond)

Aza_Belmont compiled an outstanding record of 13-4-0 to finish third in the standings of the Top 8. He is an Ultra Diamond ranked player with a global Street Fighter V ranking of 4384.

Aza_Belmont’s tournament achievements include a 13th place finish at Thunderstruck 2019.

Kaiser – Rank 7663 (Super Diamond)

Kaiser, the 7,663rd ranked player is a Super Diamond level player and rounded out the Top 8 as the final player to qualify for the tournament.

Rob_Mty – Rank 8516 (Super Diamond)

Rob_Mty is a Super Diamond ranked player who is currently ranked 8,516th in the Street Fighter V rankings. He won an impressive eleven matches in a thirteen match stretch during league play en route to an overall record of 11-6-0 to finish seventh in the Top 8.
