Jon “Bones” Jones, a consensus pick for greatest mixed martial artist of all time recently vacated the UFC Light Heavyweight championship as he has stated his intention to move the Heavyweight. So, it was a momentous night as Dominick “the Devastator” Reyes battled Jan “Polish Power” Blachowicz for the vacant strap.
In his prior fight against Jones for the Light Heavyweight championship, Reyes lost a close unanimous decision to Jones that many thought Reyes had actually won. Blachowicz, on the other hand, entered the championship bout on a three-fight win streak having won two of three by vicious knockouts.
Round 1
The fighters traded low kicks to start the first round. Neither fighter looked too interested in prolonged engagements early as both appeared to be looking for counter opportunities. Blachowicz lands a hard left body kick after throwing a straight right hand. Reyes scores with a nice counter left hand off of an outside thigh kick by Blachowicz. With a little less than a minute and a half left in the round Blachowicz landed a punishing left body kick after a nice three-punch combination. After Blachowicz landed a thirs left body kick, Reyes began showing significant redness and bruising on Reyes’ ribs.
Blachowicz threw twice as many strikes as Reyes in an effective opening frame for the Polish fighter as he remained calm and landed damaging kicks to Reyes’ right side.

Round 2
Reyes started the second round more aggressively, throwing a two punch combination to start the round and following up with a hard inside leg kick. In the middle of the round Reyes landed a couple of nice leg kicks. But it was Blachowicz who was the busier fighter. Blachowicz landed several 3-4 punch combinations in the middle of the round. With a little over one minute left in the round, Blachowicz landed another punishing left body kick to Reyes’ ribcage. With a minute left in the round, Blachowicz began to aggressively pursue Reyes. After landing several hard combinations to Reyes’ head, the finishing sequence began with 30 seconds left in the round. Blachowicz landed a punishing uppercut-left hook combination that rocked Reyes. After Reyes missed with an overhand right, Blachowicz snapped Reyes’ head with a cracking counter left hook that wobbled Reyes before Reyes crashed onto his back on the canvas. Blachowicz followed up with four punches from top position before the referee ended the fight.
