The BJJ segment of the MMA world has to be pretty hyped for this fight as two high level black belts face off in this Women’s Strawweight bout. Mackenzie Dern enters the fight with a 4-1 UFC record, 9-1 overall. Vira “Carcará” Jandiroba, on the other hand, sports a 16-1 overall record and has won her last two UFC bouts after losing her promotional debut.

Round 1

Dern moves forward and clips Jandiroba several times early in the fight. Dern controlling the octagon early pressuring Jandiroba. Nice counter left hand for Jandiroba off of a missed low kick by Dern. Dern lands a nice right hand. Up against the fence Dern lands a couple of nice shots. Dern lands several hard shots against the fence. Dern controls Jandiroba in the clinch along the fence. Good knees to the body for Jandiroba. Nice body kick for Jandiroba. Jandiroba lands a nice 1-2 combination late in the round. Dern lands a hard low kick as the round closes.

Dern charges forward early and lands a right hand. Dern continues to put pressure on her opponent. A nice right hand for Jandiroba. The fight goes to the clinch along the fence midway through the round. Both fighters land some nice knee strikes. Big knee strike followed by a nice right hand for Jandiroba. An eye poke briefly stops the action. Off the return from the break the fighters set a furious pace. Dern suffered a serious cut from a knee strike to the face that landed while she attempted a body kick. Jandiroba takes Dern down as blood flows into Dern’s eyes while on her back. Jandiroba lands a couple of nice punches from top position as Dern mostly defended well from bottom position.

As the round starts the fighters engage in the center of the cage and trade strikes. Dern shoots a single leg takedown. Jandiroba lands a nice elbow while up against the cage. Nice left high kick by Jandiroba lands to Dern’s head. Hard left kick to the body by Dern. Two hard punches via a 1-2 from Dern hurts Jandiroba and sends Jandiroba retreating to the fence. Dern attacks a single leg takedown attempt up against the fence. Dern attempts to trip Jandiroba along the fence but Jandiroba is able to counter and lands in top position at the halfway point of the round. Jandiroba lets Dern back to her feet. Both fighters setting a heavy pace and throwing hard shots. A nice lead elbow for Jandiroba. Two stiff jabs land for Dern. Hard body kick lands for Dern. Dern also doing nice work with her jab throughout this round. Dern gains top position after Jandiroba jumped guard and Dern lands a hard punch from top position late in the round.
