In early August, O’Connell captured the Washington Submission Series championship chain and $250 cash prize. She submitted both of her opponents in the absolute division. The championship match victory was particularly impressive as she submitted former UFC fighter Elizabeth Philips and was competing at a significant weight and experience disadvantage.
