The third installment of Happenstance FGC’s inaugural esports Street Fighter V league produced another night of exciting action on Monday, June 15. What is Happenstance FGC? It is a fighting game community that is currently hosting its first online Street Fighter V tournament. Happenstance FGC provides esports programming and competitions online and in-person.

The following is a quick roundup of the action and results of the June 15 broadcast. That broadcast (and all future broadcasts and past recordings) can be seen on the Happenstances FGC Facebook page here.

You can watch the next event on Thursday, June 18 at 8 pm central time. The current league is scheduled for three broadcasts a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The start time is 8 pm central time for all broadcasts.

The league format has changed somewhat in that all matches are now determined by the player who first wins two games, whereas it was previously the first player to win three games. This best of 3 games format will allow more players to play during each broadcast and should be an exciting improvement to the league.

The June 15 broadcast featured 9 total matches. Here’s a recap of the eighth match of the night. The eight match was chosen as the highlight match to recap in this report as it featured a player who exercised the option to switch characters after losing a game. As with other Street Fighter V tournaments, only the losing player can change characters after a game if the match has not yet been decided and is still ongoing. A player who won the previous game is required to take the same character in the next game if the match is still undecided.

The eighth match pitted Aza_belmont against Jefe Pilas. In the opening game, Aza_belmont played with Ibuki and Jefe Pilas chose Seth. In the first game the players split the first two rounds and Aza_belmont took the final round to win the game. Jefe Pilas won the next game by a round score of 2 to 1, making the comeback after losing the first two rounds. Having lost the previous game, Aza_belmont made the interesting choice to switch from playing Ibuki and instead chose Kolin. In the third and deciding game, the first round was close and hard-fought as both players used a combination of offense and defense, with neither player being overly aggressive. Jefe Pilas took the first round as both players were down to a minimal amount of health before Seth dealt the final blow to Kolin. Jefe Pilas got off to a good start in the second match and appeared close to winning the match but Aza_belmont made a nice comeback to force the third and deciding round of the match. Aza_belmont took an offensive, attacking approach to the final round and largely dominated while taking little damage en route to the victory.
