Tournament entry deadline is December 13, 12pm. The tournament format, as with the first tournament, is double elimination with a losers bracket path to the Grand Finals. All matches are first to three.

First Tournament Recap

The tournament consisted of ten total matches. Entertaining commentary on the matches was provided by Tournament Organizer YOURTHATRUSSIAN. Kudos to YOURTHATRUSSIANfor providing commentary while also playing in the tournament. YOURTHATRUSSIAN even gamely provided commentary during his own matches, all while periodically dealing with a malfunctioning controller!

The first match of the tournament ironically featured the same two players who also played the last match of the tournament in the Grand Finals. Shadow (playing Craig Marduk) got off to a fast start in the first two games as he won both by a round score of 3-1. In the third game, MLGsenpai had a bit more success as he switched to playing Geese Howard and forced a fifth and deciding round. Not much drama ensued, however, as Shadow scored a relatively straightforward victory in the deciding round.

Shadow had a minor hiccup in his second match when he dropped the opening game 3-0 to Maizequing. Shadow smartly switched from playing Craig Marduk in the first game, to playing Negan the remaining games against Maizequing. The strategy worked as he swept the next three games. The first round of Game 3 featured an interesting moment as a Double K.O. occurred when Shadow’s Negan landed a roundhouse kick and Maizequing’s Lili appeared to simultaneously land a slick uppercut.

Shadow switched back to Craig Marduk exclusively in his next match against Twigslayer. Twiglsayer won the opening frame of Game 1, but Shadow then flexed his muscle as he reeled off six straight rounds to go up 2 games to 0. Game 3 was close as Twigslayer won the first two rounds. But Shadow once more came up with the goods by winning three straight rounds. The victory against Twigslayer put him into the Grand Final. But first he had to wait for the losers bracket to play out, after which he would see a familiar foe in the final in MLGsenpai.

In his first match on his way through the losers bracket to the Grand Final, MLGsenpai had an entertaining and back-and-forth battle with DEADhaven32 that resulted in a 3-1 victory. In the next round, MLGsenpai had some of his strongest moments of the tournament in a difficult clash with Maizequing. After losing the first two games, MLGsenpai won three in a row to advance.  MLGsenpai had a dominant showing in the final match of the losers bracket as he rather handily beat Twigslayer, losing only four rounds as he swept the match 3-0 in game score.

After winning three in a row to come through the losers bracket, MLGsenpai had to be feeling pretty confident heading into the Grand Final and rematch with Shadow. But Shadow was having none of that as his dominant form playing Craig Marduk shined in the Grand Final. Shadow opened the Grand Final blazing hot as he swept the first six rounds to take a 2-0 game lead. In Game #3, MLGsenpai made a nice tactical move by switching to Geese Howard from Kazuya Mishima and it paid off as MLGsenpai extended the game to a fifth round and won the deciding frame and thereby avoiding a 3-0 sweep in the final. However, Shadow crushed any thoughts of a comeback in Game #4 as he once more returned to his dominant form and won the tournament by sweeping all three rounds in the deciding game.

Once again shout out to Shadow who lost only two games while going 12-2 in game score during his four victories! It will be interesting to see if anyone can challenge Shadow in the next tournament as he was dominant throughout in this one.
