After having to suffer Wiz Khalifa for about 5 or 6 too many songs (or however many he performed) the first fight of the main card is set as lightweights Jamaine Ortiz and Sulaiman Segawa square off. Seattle Fights is here to bring you live recaps immediately after each fight.
Round 1
Ortiz makes the first attack Segawa doing some nice work inside. A nice 1-2 for Segawa as he backs up his foe. Segawa with a nice lead right hook by the southpaw. Both fighters starting somewhat slow.
Round 2
Two big shots land for Ortiz early in the round. And the fight is on! Both fighters turning up the power and pressure. Ortiz with some nice body hooks on the inside. Ortiz looking much sharper this round. Segawa snaps Ortiz’s head back late in the round. But Ortiz landed at a higher clip this round, which was likely his round.
Round 3
Segawa with a nice straight body jab to start the round. Segawa more aggressive early this round. Nice 1-2 for Segawa. Segawa with a nice jab. Both fighters landing hard on the inside. Big right hand to the body lands for Ortiz. Big right hook lands for Ortiz to Segawa’s head. Ortiz doing great work late in the round as he applied the pressure and was seemingly landing at will. Segawa defended by bobbing and weaving but was getting cracked often in the process. Ortiz’s round for sure. He is likely up 2-1.
Round 4
Segawa again aggressive early but many of his punches appear to be missing early. Ortiz with some good combination work. Big left hand for Ortiz from the southpaw stance and he follows with a hard combination. Two big uppercuts for Ortiz. Ortiz seemingly landing at will. A big left hook to the body for Ortiz. Another big round for Ortiz.
Round 5
Segawa lands three hard shots early. Nice jab to the body for Segawa follows. Segawa continues with the body jabs. Accidental headbutt briefly stops the action. Big 2 punch combination lands for Ortiz. Ortiz dancing and bouncing on his feet late in the round. Both fighters land to the body late in the round. Close round but this one also likely Ortiz’s round.
Round 6
A lot of movement from Ortiz for the first minute of the round but neither fighters throw many punches early. Nice jab by Ortiz before he steps off on a nice angle. Both fighters turn up the activity late in the round as they trade toe-to-toe. Two big right hands for Ortiz late. Great round as both fighters land some hard blows and nice combinations.
Round 7
Ortiz utilizing a lot of movement early in the round. Segawa with a nice combination that starts with the body and finishes upstairs. Segawa with some good work early. Ortiz lands several uppercuts. Segawa takes a knee after getting cracked with a left hand uppercut to the liver. Segawa has a bit of a delayed reaction and winces as he kneels. After the standing 8 count, Ortiz presses the attack as Segawa clearly has not recovered. Segawa bending over forward at the waist as Ortiz hammers him and the referee calls the TKO!
